Villa Erba 2021: a summary of the events of the past year

2021 has been a year full of challenges, marked by change and elasticity in adapting to the demands of individual and collective health.

In this fluid and in some cases unstable context Villa Erba did not want to give up culture, keeping alive its proposal and shaping the events on the basis of the current situation.

In the context of the project #CulturaVillaErba2021, guided by the concepts of culture, territory and starting again together, here is a roundup of events that took place last year at Villa Erba: a reminder of the human ability to make the best of every situation, adapting resources and needs, and an inspiration for a 2022 full of opportunities, culture and beauty.

A virtuous example of adaptability was Orticolario 2021: the event, held annually in the fall, was transformed into the virtual project The Origin. An immersive experience enriched by unreleased short films and a 3D virtual tour, usable from any device. So the villa on Lake Como opened its gates through the story of Anna Gastel, granddaughter of the director Luchino Visconti, accompanying visitors through the park, the exhibition center, the ancient villa and the dungeons.

Also last year Villa Erba was among the locations of excellence of the Lake Como Film Festival, an event dedicated to cinema that in 2021 has chosen the theme "The shores of the cinema" and allowed lovers and curious of the seventh art to admire the beauty of Villa Erba during the suggestion of the twilight, in a unique and enchanting atmosphere.

From cinema to music with Pic: A treasure of the territory, an event in collaboration with the Teatro Sociale di Como that saw the park of Villa Erba transformed into the stage of musical performances to celebrate composers who stayed on the shores of Lake Como, between inspiration and wonder aroused by the Larian territory.

Villa Erba celebrated the value and uniqueness of Made in Italy through events dedicated to manufacturing and industry. Also in 2021 the Cernobbio estate has been the elegant location of Proposte Fair, an exhibition event that hosts the most prestigious realities of the Italian and foreign furnishing textiles, including new brands resulting from the continuous research carried out by the organizing committee.

In this perspective Villa Erba hosted Comocrea 2021 Textile Design Show, the international trade fair of textile design of clothing dedicated to the spring-summer collection.

Not only: also in 2021 the villa became the venue of the World Manufacturing Forum, an event dedicated to the manufacturing industry, which in its ninth edition has seen digital technologies as key players in the circular economy, proposing prospects for the future of manufacturing.

In addition, the nineteenth-century estate hosted the general assembly of Confindustria Como with the theme "Being sustainable, changing step. Together" and the centenary of the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce.

Culture, art, industry and science: in 2021 Villa Erba hosted the global congress of DDS, Digital Dentistry Society, which organizes the largest international scientific conference in the field.

But also tourism: Villa Erba hosted three days of networking among the best operators of the tourism and congress market of Lake Como, in collaboration with Lake Como Convention Bureau (a network of operators of excellence in the Larian tourism industry).

In this way, the location on Lake Como becomes a center of innovation, research, sustainability and beauty, in harmony with the needs and riches of the Como area.

It has been a year full of challenges, and Villa Erba has been able to accept them, transforming them into cultural and industrial opportunities: may the year 2022 be under the sign of all this.
